Once a game is suspended because of lightning, it will not resume until 30 minutes after the last lightning is seen and thunder heard.
Lightning Fact from the National Weather Service
- Lightning strikes are 6-8 miles long.
- Thunder can be heard for only 4 miles.
- If you hear thunder, you are at risk.
- The Anvil Cloud (overhanging leading edge) of a thunderstorm can produce lightning up to 10 miles before the storm.
- ALL thunderstorms produce lightning.
What to Do and Where to Go?
- Halt play immediately when you hear thunder or see lightning.
- Wait out the storm in a large enclosed shelter or a fully enclosed metal vehicle with the windows rolled up.
- Avoid open fields, isolated trees, poles, fences dugouts, bleachers, etc.
Lightning victims are not electrified!!
Dial 9-1-1 and render first aid!!
