Youth Umpires Needed for the 2011 Season Every year Mendham Little League sponsors a program to instruct boys and girls in umpiring skills and offers them a chance to earn money by actually umpiring games in the AAA Baseball Division (primarily 3rd and 4th graders) and the Softball Minor League (primarily 3rd and 4th graders). Our season will start in mid-April and go through the 3rd week of June. If you are interested, please see the instructions below.
Who is eligible?
- Open to all Mendham Borough and Mendham Township residents.
- Open to all boys and girls currently in 7th grade or above through high school.
- Currently not playing in the majors during the 2011 Mendham Little League season.
- Must have a thorough knowledge of the rules for Little League baseball and softball and be in good standing with the MLL Board.
- Must complete the 2 1/2 hour 2011 Mendham Little League Youth Umpire Training Clinic offered twice, Sunday March 27 & Sunday April 3 from 3-5:30 at the Mendham Borough gazebo field. in late March.
Please note: To those umpires that umpired before for Mendham Little League, you still must to attend one of the training clinics again this year. There are many rule changes that you need to be aware of, as well as new league directions for certain umpiring situations. If you do not attend a training clinic this year, you cannot umpire in 2011.
When is the clinic?
The Mendham Little League Student Umpire Training Clinic will be offered twice and is free of charge - you will need to attend ONE of these sessions to be eligible to umpire during the 2011 season. The clinic will cover little league rules (both baseball and softball), umpire techniques, equipment and how to handle disputes and injuries. Also there will be representatives from the MLL Board available to answer any questions.
- Sunday, March 27, 2011 from 3:00 pm to 5:30 pm at the Mendham Borough gazebo baseball field. If it rains, the clinic will be held in the Carriage House.
- Sunday, March 29, 2009 from 3:00 pm to 5:30 pm at the Mendham Borough gazebo baseball field. If it rains, the clinic will be held in the Carriage House.
How do I apply?
- You can e-mail your application to the Director of Umpires, Michael Roch at rochmichael78@yahoo.com. The application should include your full name, age and grade, school (Borough/Township), your parents' names, your address, all home and cell numbers and your e-mail address where I can notify you of game assignments, field changes, weather cancellations, rule changes, etc.

How much do I get paid?
- $25 per game for umpiring behind the plate.
- $15 per game for umpiring in the field.
- Games average about 2 hours in length.
Where are the games?
- Games are usually played on Wednesday nights and all day on Saturdays staring in mid-April going to the middle of June.
